South Elgin is a Fox River community 40 miles northwest of Chicago, reached via I-90 to Route 31. The town sits in Kane County's river valley with neighborhoods spreading across rolling terrain. Route 31 runs north-south through downtown, while Route 20 connects from Elgin. Commuters use short routes to nearby suburbs or longer trips to Chicago via I-90 and Metra connections. The preserved 1906 Panton Mill still displays its original water wheel that once powered grain processing along the Fox River.
