South Bay is a small farming town of 5,000 people in western Palm Beach County, about 50 miles from West Palm Beach. Take State Road 80 west to US Highway 27 to get there. The town sits on Lake Okeechobee's shore, surrounded by sugar cane fields that produce half of America's sugar. The annual Sugar Festival in March celebrates this sweet heritage.
