Sour Lake is a small East Texas city about 20 miles northwest of Beaumont, reached via US Highway 105 from Interstate 10. The town of 2,130 sits among pine forests and wetlands typical of the Big Thicket region. Most visitors drive from Houston (90 minutes) or use Beaumont Municipal Airport 25 miles away. The city gets its distinctive name from natural sulfur springs that still bubble up from the ground today.
