Somerset is a tiny residential enclave in Montgomery County, just across the Potomac from DC. Reach it via the Beltway (I-495) at Exit 41 for River Road, or take Massachusetts Avenue northwest from downtown Washington. Long-distance travelers use I-270 or I-95 to connect with the Beltway. The community of 1,100 residents maintains one of Montgomery County's last volunteer fire departments, operating from its historic 1929 firehouse.
