Snowflake sits in Arizona's high country at 5,600 feet, where you'll actually find snow in winter unlike most of the state. Take Highway 77 north from Show Low (20 miles) or south from Holbrook to reach this Mormon pioneer town founded in 1878. The founders literally combined their last names - Erastus Snow and William Flake - to create "Snowflake."
