Snead is a small town of about 1,200 people in rural Blount County, 45 miles northeast of Birmingham. Most visitors arrive via US Highway 231 from Interstate 65 near Cullman, or take State Route 75 through the countryside. The town sits in Alabama's Appalachian foothills among cattle ranches and poultry farms. Snead is home to a historic community college campus that dates back to 1898.
