Smithton is a small Pennsylvania borough of about 400 people located 35 miles southeast of Pittsburgh along the Youghiogheny River. Take I-70 east from Pittsburgh to Route 981 south for the most direct access, or use the Pennsylvania Turnpike via New Stanton. The town sits in a scenic river valley with rolling Appalachian foothills and serves as a quiet residential community for Pittsburgh area commuters. The historic 1888 one-room schoolhouse still stands as a community center.
