Smithton is a small farming town in central Missouri, about 15 miles southeast of Sedalia via Highway 50. Most visitors arrive from Highway 65, the main north-south route connecting Kansas City and Springfield. The town sits in rolling prairie country with corn and soybean fields. Its most notable landmark is a 1920s grain elevator that towers over downtown and can be seen for miles across the flat countryside.
