Smithfield is a tiny farming town of 150 people in Fulton County, about 25 miles northwest of Peoria via Route 97 through Lewistown. The rural community sits along the Spoon River in rolling prairie country. Most visitors arrive from Peoria or Galesburg on state routes rather than interstates. The old grain elevator still towers over the small downtown area.
