Smackover is a small Arkansas town on Highway 7, about 15 miles north of El Dorado and 100 miles south of Little Rock. Most visitors take Interstate 167 from El Dorado to Highway 335 west, or drive down Highway 7 from Camden. The town got its unusual name from French explorers who called the area "Sumac Couvert," and road signs still make passing drivers do double-takes.
