Sleepy Eye is a prairie town of 3,400 in south-central Minnesota, positioned right on US Highway 14 about 90 miles southwest of Minneapolis. The main route from the Twin Cities follows US-169 south to Highway 14 west through New Ulm. Highway 14 serves as the primary east-west corridor, connecting to Interstate 90 for long-distance travel, while Highway 4 handles local north-south traffic. The town's centerpiece is a striking 28-foot monument to Chief Sleepy Eye, a Dakota leader, standing prominently in the central park.
