Sledge is a tiny Delta farming community of 270 people in Quitman County, about 30 miles south of Memphis. Highway 3 provides the main access from Clarksdale, while Interstate 55 and Highway 6 connect from Memphis through the cotton country of northwestern Mississippi. The local post office serves as an unofficial community center where neighbors still gather and know each other by name.
