Sholes is a tiny farming community in northeastern Nebraska's Wayne County, home to just 14 people amid rolling agricultural land. Reach it via Highway 35 north from Wayne, about 8 miles south, or through local county roads from nearby Wakefield. The settlement was named after Christopher Latham Sholes, who invented the QWERTY keyboard layout still used on modern computers and phones.
