Shiner is a small Texas town about 90 miles southeast of Austin, reached via US Highway 90 Alt through rolling countryside. The town of 2,100 sits in Lavaca County farming country, with warm summers and mild winters. Most visitors arrive from Austin via US 183 south to Lockhart, then US 90 Alt southeast, or from Houston on US 90 west through Hallettsville. The Spoetzl Brewery has been making Shiner Bock beer here since 1909, with the original brick brewery still operating downtown.
