Sheboygan sits on Lake Michigan about an hour north of Milwaukee via Interstate 43, Wisconsin's main north-south corridor. Highway 23 cuts east-west through town, while Highway 42 follows the scenic lakeshore route from Door County. The lake moderates the climate but adds winter snow. Known as the "Bratwurst Capital of the World," local butcher shops still hand-twist bratwurst using traditional German immigrant techniques.
