Shasta Lake is a small Northern California city about 10 miles north of Redding on Interstate 5, serving as the gateway to the state's largest reservoir. Most visitors arrive via I-5 from Sacramento (160 miles south) or continue north toward Oregon, while Highway 299 connects from the coast through Redding. The 602-foot-tall Shasta Dam offers free tours and remains one of America's tallest concrete dams.
