Shallowater is a small West Texas city of about 3,000 people located 15 miles northwest of Lubbock via US Highway 84. The town sits in flat cotton country at 3,400 feet elevation. Visitors from Dallas take I-27 north to Lubbock, then US 84 northwest, while Amarillo drivers head south on I-27 for about 115 miles. The original 1920s downtown grid still centers on Avenue H, where the historic Shallowater State Bank building anchors the small business district.
