Shady Point is a small Le Flore County town of 900 people in eastern Oklahoma's river valley country. US Highway 271 runs right through town, connecting north to Fort Smith, Arkansas (25 miles) and south toward the Texas border. Most visitors arrive via Interstate 40 to US-271 south, while locals make short trips to Poteau for shopping. The town literally got its name from a shaded bend along the Arkansas River where pioneers once rested.
