Shabbona is a small farming town in DeKalb County, about 70 miles west of Chicago via I-88 and local roads. Route 23 runs north-south through town, connecting to DeKalb and other area communities. The town of 572 sits on rolling prairie land with a typical Midwest agricultural economy. Shabbona was named after a Potawatomi chief, and its historic cemetery contains pioneer graves from the 1850s.
