Severance is a farming community of 37 people in northeastern Kansas, about 12 miles northwest of Atchison. Reach it via US 36 from St. Joseph, Missouri, then county roads through agricultural land. From Kansas City, drive north through Atchison and continue on rural routes. Despite its tiny size, Severance maintains its own post office.
