Seneca is a small county seat in northeastern Kansas, home to about 2,100 people in farming country along the Nemaha River. US Highway 36 runs east-west through town, connecting to St. Joseph, Missouri (45 miles east) and points west toward Colorado, while Kansas Highway 9 provides north-south access. The 1940 Nemaha County Courthouse downtown showcases rare Art Deco architecture unusual for rural Kansas.
