Semmes is a small city in southern Alabama, about 15 miles northwest of Mobile via Interstate 65. Exit 13 connects to the main residential areas, while US Highway 43 runs north-south through town toward Mobile and Tuscaloosa. The community of 5,600 sits among pine forests typical of the Gulf Coastal Plain. It's named after Confederate Admiral Raphael Semmes, commander of the famous CSS Alabama.
