Selby is a small farming town of 700 people in north-central South Dakota, about 60 miles northwest of Pierre via US-83. The highway runs right through town, connecting to Aberdeen (90 miles east via US-12) and continuing north toward North Dakota. As Walworth County's seat, it serves surrounding agricultural communities with grain elevators and farm services. The town still operates in its original 1916 Carnegie library, one of the few remaining in the state.
