Scottdale is a small city of about 4,400 people in southwestern Pennsylvania's coal country, roughly 45 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. Take US Route 119 south from Pittsburgh through Greensburg, or exit the Pennsylvania Turnpike at Donegal and follow Route 31 west to Route 119. The town sits in the Appalachian foothills along Jacobs Creek, surrounded by wooded ridges typical of Westmoreland County. The restored 1920s Scottdale Theater downtown still shows movies and hosts live performances.
