Schoolcraft is a small city of 1,275 people in southwestern Michigan's Kalamazoo County, situated along the Kalamazoo River. US-131 provides the main access route, connecting the town to Kalamazoo 15 miles south and Grand Rapids to the north, while State Route 96 offers east-west travel. The city was named after Henry Schoolcraft, the famous 19th-century explorer who mapped the Great Lakes region.
