Schell City is a small Vernon County town of 224 people in western Missouri, reached via Highway 82 from Interstate 49. The highway connects east to Nevada (15 miles) for shopping and services, while longer trips to Kansas City involve a 90-mile drive north on I-49. The town was named after Augustus Schell, a New York financier who helped fund the Missouri Pacific Railroad that established the community in the 1880s.
