Scandia is a small farming town in north-central Kansas, home to fewer than 300 people. Located on US Highway 36 about 15 miles west of Belleville, it sits amid rolling wheat country in Republic County. The town was founded by Scandinavian settlers in the 1870s, and their heritage lives on in the local cemetery where Swedish inscriptions still mark the original homesteaders' graves.
