Saranac is a small city of 2,000 in west-central Michigan, about 25 miles northeast of Grand Rapids via I-96 and M-21. The town sits along the Flat River in agricultural country, with easy highway access but limited local amenities. The 1905 Carnegie-funded library building remains a centerpiece of the historic downtown.
