Santee is a San Diego County suburb about 20 miles northeast of downtown, connected by Highway 52 and State Route 67. The city sits in a valley surrounded by hills with a warm, dry climate. Popular routes include SR-67 south to I-8 for reaching downtown San Diego or the mountains, and Highway 52 west toward the coast. It's home to one of the county's last drive-in movie theaters, complete with a vintage 1958 neon sign.
