Sanibel is a barrier island about 20 miles southwest of Fort Myers, reached by a toll causeway from the mainland. Take I-75 to Daniels Parkway or McGregor Boulevard, then head west to the bridge. The island has no traffic lights and maintains strict development rules that keep it low-key and natural. Periwinkle Way runs the length of the island, connecting to Captiva Island to the north. The east-west orientation creates exceptional seashelling as Gulf currents deposit shells along the beaches.
