Saluda is a mountain town of 683 people sitting at 2,100 feet in North Carolina's Blue Ridge Mountains. It's 25 miles southeast of Asheville via I-26 and Highway 176, or about two hours from Charlotte. The town sits on the steepest standard-gauge railroad grade in America, where trains dramatically descend a 3% grade right through downtown.
