Salmon is a small mountain town in central Idaho's Lemhi Valley, sitting at nearly 4,000 feet elevation. It's the county seat and main hub for the surrounding wilderness areas. US Highway 93 runs right through town, connecting north to Missoula (140 miles) and south to Sun Valley. Highway 28 heads east toward Montana. Most visitors come through on their way to wilderness areas or as a mountain crossing point between states. The town sits along the famous Salmon River and serves as a gateway to the Frank Church Wilderness.
