Rutledge is a small Tennessee town of 1,700 people along US Highway 11W in Grainger County, about 45 miles northeast of Knoxville. Most visitors arrive via US 11W from either Knoxville or Morristown, following the historic route through the Holston River valley. The town sits in rolling Appalachian foothills with a humid subtropical climate. Rutledge is the birthplace of Davy Crockett, marked by a monument just outside town.
