Rutland is a small Ohio River valley town of under 1,000 people in southeastern Ohio's Meigs County. State Route 124 runs right through town, connecting west to county seat Pomeroy and east toward the river. Most residents drive Route 124 to Pomeroy for daily needs, while longer trips use State Route 7 along the Ohio River or connect north to US Route 35. The volunteer fire department still proudly displays its restored 1950s fire truck at the annual county fair.
