Runnells is a farming community of 440 people about 20 miles southeast of Des Moines. Take Highway 5 east from Des Moines, then turn south on local roads. Most visitors come from the Des Moines metro area via a 30-minute drive through corn and soybean country. The town's grain elevator stands tall along the railroad tracks, visible across the flat farmland.
