Ruleville is a small Delta farming town in Sunflower County, surrounded by cotton and soybean fields. Highway 8 runs through the center, connecting to Cleveland (15 miles north) and Greenwood (25 miles southeast via Highway 82). Most long-distance travelers use Highway 82 to reach Interstate 55 near Greenwood for routes to Jackson or Memphis. The town is famous as civil rights leader Fannie Lou Hamer's hometown, and her house still stands on East Lafayette Street.
