Ruby is an isolated Alaskan village of 237 people on the Yukon River, about 230 miles northwest of Fairbanks. No roads reach the community - access is by plane through Ruby Airport or boat in summer. Winter creates ice roads along the frozen river. The village sits where the Yukon and Melozi rivers meet, and traditional fish wheels still spin in the current, catching salmon as they have for over a century.
