Royal Lakes is a tiny central Illinois community of 300 people, reached via I-55 Exit 63 near Litchfield or State Route 4. Located 40 miles south of Springfield in Macoupin County, it sits among rolling farmland dotted with small lakes from reclaimed strip mines. The old grass airstrip at nearby Litchfield Municipal Airport still hosts weekend pilots and crop dusters.
