Roy is a tiny ranching town in northeastern New Mexico's high plains, population 302, sitting at 5,200 feet elevation. US Highway 56 runs right through town, connecting east to Clayton (45 miles) and west to Springer and Interstate 25. Most visitors drive in from Santa Fe or Albuquerque, about two hours west. The area sees hot summers, cold snowy winters, and afternoon thunderstorms. Roy's 1950s grain elevator towers over the prairie as a landmark visible for miles.
