Round Mountain is a tiny Hill Country community of 81 people on Highway 281, about 45 miles northwest of Austin. The scenic drive from Austin takes an hour through rolling limestone hills and live oak country. From San Antonio, it's 90 miles north on US 281 through Johnson City. The town sits beneath a distinctive rounded limestone hill that gives it its name and serves as a landmark visible for miles across the surrounding ranchland.
