Rotan is a small farming town in west-central Texas, about 60 miles northwest of Abilene on US Highway 70. Most visitors arrive via US 70 from Sweetwater or continue northwest toward Lubbock. The town sits in rolling plains country with a semi-arid climate supporting cotton and wheat farming. Its restored 1920s railroad depot now houses the city library.
