Roper is a small farming town of 384 people in eastern North Carolina's Washington County. US Highway 64 runs right through the center, connecting it west to Rocky Mount and east toward the Outer Banks. The town has its own general aviation airport and sits about 20 miles inland from the Albemarle Sound. You can still see the old brick tobacco warehouses along the railroad tracks from when Roper was a regional tobacco trading hub.
