Roma sits on the Rio Grande about 60 miles west of McAllen, serving as a key border crossing to Mexico. Highway 83 is the main route, connecting eastward to McAllen's airport and westward toward Laredo. Most visitors drive from McAllen or take US 281 south from San Antonio through ranch country. The Roma-Ciudad Miguel Alemán International Bridge here links Texas directly to Tamaulipas, Mexico.
