Roland is a small farming town in central Iowa, about 15 miles north of Ames via Highway 69. Most visitors drive up from Ames or connect through I-35 from Des Moines. The area is classic Iowa prairie with corn and soybean fields stretching to the horizon. Roland's biggest moment comes when RAGBRAI, Iowa's famous week-long bicycle ride, rolls through town, bringing thousands of cyclists to this community of under 1,600 residents.
