Rockdale is a small Will County city about 45 miles southwest of Chicago, reached via Interstate 80 west from I-55. Most traffic uses Exit 112 or 113 off I-80, with local connections through nearby Joliet. The flat prairie community sits along the Des Plaines River with EV charging available at I-80 travel centers. Rockdale's massive former Caterpillar plant remains one of Illinois's largest industrial buildings.
