Rock City is a small farming community of 441 people in northwestern Illinois, about 25 miles north of Rockford via Route 2. The town sits near the Wisconsin border in rolling prairie country, connected to the region by US Highway 20 to the south. Most visitors arrive from Rockford or use county roads for local trips to nearby Dakota and Ridott. The town's historic one-room schoolhouse from 1876 still stands on Main Street.
