Roanoke is a small Alabama city of about 5,300 people located 70 miles east of Birmingham via I-20 and Highway 431. The county seat sits in rolling Appalachian foothills with Highway 9 connecting local communities and Highway 431 providing the main north-south route to Anniston. The courthouse square defines downtown, and Talladega National Forest begins just southeast of the city.
