Rio Bravo is a small border town just 15 miles northwest of Laredo via US Highway 83. This Webb County community of 4,500 sits along the Rio Grande in the hot, arid South Texas landscape. Most visitors arrive through Laredo using Interstate 35, then connect to local roads. The town serves as a quieter residential alternative to Laredo while maintaining easy access to Mexico border crossings. One of the few remaining hand-operated cable ferries along the Texas-Mexico border still carries pedestrians across the Rio Grande here.
