Rico is a tiny mountain town of 414 people tucked into a dramatic valley in the San Juans at 8,750 feet elevation. Highway 145 is the main route, connecting Telluride to the north with Cortez and Mesa Verde to the south. It's a popular stop for travelers heading between Telluride's slopes and Four Corners attractions. The historic Rico Hotel on main street still shows bullet holes from the town's wild 1890s silver mining days.
