Richton is a small crossroads town in southeastern Mississippi where US Highway 11 and Mississippi Highway 42 intersect. Most visitors pass through on Highway 11 while traveling between Hattiesburg (25 miles north) and the Gulf Coast, or use Highway 42 for local east-west travel. The town sits in dense pine forest country and retains its character as a former railroad timber shipping point, with the old Gulf, Mobile and Ohio Railroad depot still standing downtown.
